First of all, set the height of the crossbar to try by clicking on [+]/[-] buttons on the display board placed on the right edge of the game window. And mouse-click to start the approach run. When Bear reaches the front of mat and plants the pole on the pit, press mouse button with the "PLANT" power indicator at its maximum to take off. And keep the button pressed until the spring-power of the bent pole("POWER" indicator) gets maximum. And then release it to leap the crossbar. The height of the crossbar, Bear vaulted successfully, simply becomes your game score. Do your best to set a world record.
